Our story

A family that grew up in the Huayhuash

Marino Carrera Zambrano started guiding trekkers through the Huayhuash in the 1970s, one of the first to do so. His daughter Rocío grew up among the mules and llamas of these valleys. She began as an arriera in 2003, then worked as a cook, and today she is a guide and runs Huayhuash Trek Perú. When you trek with us, you walk with people who have crossed these passes for decades.

How we travel

What every trek includes

Local, from Huaraz

Your guide, cook and arrieros are from the Áncash highlands, so the money you spend stays in these communities.

Real mountain food

Three hot meals and two snacks a day, cooked fresh at camp. Boiled water every morning and evening.

Donkeys do the heavy lifting

Pack animals carry camp and up to 5 kg of your gear (8 kg on Integral Premium), so you hike with a light daypack.

Small groups

Join an open group departure of up to 10 people, from May to October, or book a private trek on your own dates.

From our trekkers

“An incredible trek with a wonderful guide who introduced us to this superb scenery and to Peruvian culture. I recommend it without hesitation!”

“Rocio and her burros accompanied us on a trek of the cordillera Huayhuash, back in 06. It was a great experience, and thanks to her we could do the trek without having to carry overly heavy packs. I strongly recommend Rocio for anyone considering climbing or trekking in the Huaraz area.”
